The iPhone 12 review and iPhone 12 Pro review are out now, with a faster A14 Bionic chip that beats the competition on Android phones, a more rugged Ceramic Shield display, 5G, and better cameras on both models
But the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro also have their weaknesses: we told you about the iPhone 12's relatively short battery life on 5G, and you already know that the charger is not included in the box But neither of these shortcomings is as bad as this infuriating decision by Apple
The iPhone 12 starts at $799 ($829 for the unlocked version) and comes with only 64GB of storage That's a paltry amount for such a high-end phone Yes, upgrading to 128GB costs $50 more, but it would be hard to find another flagship phone that is so skimpy [For example, Samsung's Galaxy S20 FE starts at $699 and comes standard with 128GB of storage In addition, it has a built-in microSD card slot that can be expanded to 1 TB if you so desire; the Galaxy S20 FE also has a telephoto lens, which is for the more expensive $999 iPhone 12 Pro, but that's another story
What's the best budget phone? The Google Pixel 4a, which costs only $349, also ships with 128GB; that's twice the storage for less than half the cost of the iPhone 12
I've had my iPhone 11 Pro Max for a little over a year and currently use 832GB of storage My biggest treasure is games; "Fortnite," which I can't even download now due to the Apple-Epic Games feud, takes up a whopping 959 GB by itself
Other titles I've downloaded from Apple Arcade range from 2GB to 3GB That may not seem like a lot, but it is when you download a dozen or so titles My photos currently take up 162 GB, and Spotify takes up about 12 GB of downloaded songs
The good news is that you can easily see which apps are taking up the most space in iPhone Storage in the iPhone 12 settings And there you can do several things to free up more space This includes allowing the iPhone to automatically offload unused apps In my case, I was able to save 29 GB
It also allows me to review large attachments such as photos and videos received in the Messages app and delete them on the fly However, I wanted to keep most of them
I would strongly recommend that you add $50 and get the iPhone 12 with 128GB of storage And if you plan to play a lot of games or take a lot of photos and videos, add $150 and jump up to 256GB
The iPhone 12 will be around for at least a few years, and you can't add storage later like you can with a charger
