According to another leak, the Google Pixel 4a has 5G connectivity and could compete with the OnePlus Nord
XDA Developers reports that US MVNO Boom! Mobile offers 5G coverage to devices from Samsung, LG, Motorola, and others using T-Mobile and Verizon networks The list includes a device with the name "Google G025E," which appears to be related to the Pixel 4a [G025J, G025N, and G025M were revealed in a previous FCC filing to be model numbers given to the Pixel 4a, so this new model name is traceable to the previous one, as G025E is listed on Boom!Mobile's 5G phone, it is not difficult to assume that the suffix "E" is related to the 5G Pixel 4a
However, the Pixel 4a is expected to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730 chip, which does not have 5G connectivity This means that the 5G version of the Pixel 4a will be powered by a new chipset, probably the Snapdragon 765G with a 5G modem
The Snapdragon 765G is also expected to be found in the Pixel 5 However, since the Pixel 4a is targeted at the budget smartphone market, its chip will likely be made of cheaper materials and mounted in a chassis with fewer cameras and other features
However, adding 5G to a phone often requires a larger battery pack and more antennas, so a 5G Pixel 4a could be a bit larger than its non-5G stablemate The standard Pixel 4a is expected to have a 3,080 mAh battery, so if the 5G version increases that to, say, 4,000 mAh, it will require more space in the housing
Of course, this could be a misstatement by Boom! Mobile, but we have seen rumors before suggesting a 5G Pixel 4a adding 5G connectivity would give the Pixel 4a a way to compete with the OnePlus Nord, which will be unveiled today which is expected to be unveiled today
Featuring a 58-inch display with a punch-hole selfie camera, the Pixel 4a is set to have a smaller screen than the OnePlus Nord's 64-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate
Also, with only one rear camera, the Pixel 4a could lose out to the Nord's quad camera array However, specs do not necessarily tell the whole story, as Google's computational photography is at such a high level that even just one camera can take very impressive pictures
The Pixel 4a is expected to cost around $349, while the OnePlus Nord will likely be more expensive, but still priced below $500 It is not clear how much Google will charge for the 5G version
