We've seen a number of concept renderings that illustrate the aesthetic, but nothing particularly excited me about the shape the new iPhone might take until the one posted by PhoneArena

PhoneArena has released a series of renderings of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro

In many ways, these renderings are modernized versions of classic designs, but they use motifs from Apple's latest devices There is, of course, the square camera patch, but a closer look also reveals a mix of glossy and matte-etched glass, which Apple introduced with the iPhone 11 series

In the existing iPhone 11 Pro, a matte texture dominates the back, with the glossy finish reserved for the camera module; PhoneArena has reflected that touch in their renderings, and the device looks better for it

In fact, I prefer the cheaper iPhone 12 design; it is interesting that PhoneArena's vision of the entry-level model does not incorporate a color-matched frame with the back of the phone, but the site made this change because Apple made this change with the iPhone XR design and continued it with the iPhone 11, and we assume that there is reason to believe that they will abandon this design after introducing it

Personally, I think the silver frames on all iPhone 12 color schemes look more visually distinctive and create a nice contrast, but that's just me For what it's worth, it's also cheaper for Apple to manufacture This will be especially important since these will be the first iPhones to support 5G and will likely be priced higher because of it

Otherwise, there is nothing particularly new in PhoneArena's visualization of Apple's next iPhone; notice that the dual-lens array of the iPhone 12 will be replaced by a triple-optic plus LiDAR stack in the Pro variant

Also note the notch on these devices, which is narrower than Cupertino's existing TrueDepth camera system Apple is supposedly experimenting with an iPhone design that embeds the TrueDepth sensor and camera within a thin bezel on the screen, but this design will not be released this cycle

Ultimately, a growing number of reports point to a breakdown of iPhone 12 sizes and models: two entry-level models, 54" and 61", and two Pro models, 61" and 67" Both are expected to feature OLED screens, with the Pro model possibly having an accelerated refresh rate for smoother animations

As fall approaches, expect to see more high-quality rendered images like these, not to mention leaks of iPhone 12 devices in the wild
