It's been Agatha all along! Disney Plus is reportedly developing a "Wander Vision" spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn Emmy-nominated Kathryn Hahn played the breakout character in Disney Plus' first Marvel series Fans have been clamoring for a spinoff since the "Wander Vision" finale, as it became increasingly clear that "Wander Vision" Season 2 would not happen
Marvel has not confirmed Variety's report that Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness in a spinoff described as a "dark comedy "WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer is the writer and executive producer will return as a writer and executive producer This will be the first project Schaeffer signed with Marvel and 20th Television for in May
Hahn's character was first introduced on WandaVision as Agnes, the stereotypical nosy neighbor seen on the sitcom In the first few episodes, she is portrayed as Wanda's (Elizabeth Olsen) joke-telling, winking sidekick
Then, in episode 7, Agnes confesses that she is the powerful witch Agatha Harkness She tricked Wanda into believing that Ralph Bonner (Evan Peters) was her brother Pietro Her actions were delightfully recreated in the song "Agatha All Along," composed by Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (This wonderful song deservedly won an Emmy)
Episode 8 revealed Agatha's backstory: in 1693, in Salem, Massachusetts, a coven of witches led by Agatha's own mother attempted to execute her for black magic Instead, she deprived the witches of their magic and life force
About 330 years later, Agatha attempted to do the same thing to Wanda She revealed that Wanda could use Chaos magic and was actually the mythical Scarlet Witch A battle ensued, but Wanda won and took Agatha's magic instead
Before leaving Westview, Wanda defeated Hex, but Agatha remained trapped in Agnes' character
An Agatha-centric spin-off of Wanda Vision could really be anything In general, however, the possibilities can be divided into a prequel or sequel to Wanda Vision
A prequel could follow Agatha's development of her black magic skills after the Salem witch trials; with over 300 years to go, there is plenty of room for Schaeffer to come up with whatever storyline the screenwriter comes up with The spinoff is described as a dark comedy, so don't expect a wartime setting
A sequel would give the screenwriter less room to work within the norms set by the current and upcoming films and Disney Plus programming However, if Agatha becomes aware that she is trapped in the role of housewife, a dark comedic one could fit in very nicely Once Agatha becomes aware that she is trapped in the role of housewife, the dark comedic stuff will fit in very well
First, Marvel and Disney Plus have not even confirmed whether a Wander Vision spinoff is actually in development And even if it were in development, shows are always being developed and then never made Projects are either stuck in development hell or cancelled altogether Take a look at the many spin-off projects of "Game of Thrones" At least two were "in development" but were eventually scrapped
Even if Agatha's Wander Vision spinoff does go forward to production, it may be some time before it is released on Disney Plus Marvel has already announced Ms Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk on its tentative 2022 schedule At some point after that will come Secret Invasion, Ironheart, and Armor Wars And let's not forget "Loki" Season 2
Not that Marvel and Disney Plus can't put a Wander Vision spinoff somewhere on their timetable However, Hahn's schedule must also be taken into consideration She is set to appear in a Joan Rivers limited series in development at Showtime (Again, it's "in development," so take it with a grain of salt)
Given all of this, it seems highly unlikely that an Agatha Harkness show will appear on Disney Plus before 2023
