Our last remake is reportedly coming to PS5 — and that's not all

The beloved PlayStation exclusive "The Last of Us" is reportedly being remade for PS5, while a 2019 sequel to "Day Gone" was proposed to Sony by Bend Studio, but apparently turned down

These two pieces of news come from a Bloomberg report that a remake of "The Last of Us," released on PS3 in 2013, is underway at PlayStation Studios under the code name T1X

The outlet claims that Michael Mumbauer, founder of Sony's support developers, has assembled a team of 30 people to produce a remake of "The Last of Us" after abandoning the first "Uncharted" game

The project soon hit a snag as the budget skyrocketed, and the team was instead assigned to help Naughty Dog develop "The Last of Us Part II"

After the sequel's successful release, several Naughty Dog team members were asked to move on to the T1X project, after which Mumbauer left the team However, work on the remake is reportedly still ongoing

While one can appreciate that The Last of Us is a gem in Sony's exclusive games portfolio, it is quite odd to remake a game that is only seven years old, and at this point it hardly looks or plays old

It's even stranger when you consider that The Last of Us was already remastered for release on PS4 in 2014 Nevertheless, with HBO's film adaptation of the game slated for this summer, the remake will be well-timed

Bloomberg also reports that Bend Studios has planned a sequel to its 2019 zombie action game Days Gone The game was pitched shortly after the original game's release, but apparently didn't pan out

Bend has reportedly moved on to assist with Naughty Dog's upcoming titles, including a multiplayer game (which is believed to be set in The Last of Us world) and the long-rumored next installment in the Uncharted series

The timeline is a bit fuzzy, but Bend is currently working on his own original game again, but whether this is a new IP or the newly greenlit "Days Gone 2" is currently unknown

While this may seem like good news for PS5 users, Bloomberg reports that there is growing discord among several PlayStation development teams Developers at Studio Bend, in particular, are not happy that they have been deprived of their autonomy and instead relegated to a support role at Naughty Dog

Time will tell if these reports are accurate, but a remake of "The Last of Us" seems to be very well received by PlayStation fans (although it seems unlikely, a sequel to "Days Gone" would be hard to say no to)

Of course, if these projects do become reality, you will need a PS5 to play them Unfortunately, that's easier said than done Be sure to bookmark our guide to where to buy a PS5 as soon as the latest availability information becomes available
