Apple Music helps Taylor Swift find her next concert
Apple is rolling out several new ideas for finding the next concert, calling them "concert discovery features" using Apple Music and Apple Maps Apple Maps has added a feature called Apple Music Guides, and Apple Music has added a feature called Set Lists Both are available now
Apple Music Guides are for when you know you want to see a live show, but don't care who goes to it These guides showcase more than 40 different music venues in more than 10 different cities and are supervised by Apple Music editors; just open the Apple Maps app and you'll find everything that cities like New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Vienna, and Tokyo have to offer, or at least many of them can be explored
But the coolest part of these guides, however, is that the Maps app integrates with the Shazam concert discovery module provided by Bandsintown This integration allows users to see a list of upcoming performances at a venue in Apple Maps
Here's how it works: go to Apple Music Guides, click on a city guide, and a list of venues will appear Clicking on one of the venues will take you to the familiar Apple Maps page, where you will see icons for "Directions," "Call," etc For supported venues, you will also see a "Tickets" icon Clicking on the Tickets icon will take you to a Shazam page that displays concerts scheduled at that venue
Unfortunately, this integration is still a bit frustrating You can see what's going on and add concert details to your calendar, but you can't actually buy tickets At least that was the case when I tested the feature for American Legion Post 82 in Nashville However, the problem is with the Shazam page, not Apple Maps; hopefully Shazam will soon improve the functionality of the concert discovery feature
With Set Lists, Apple Music finally gets one of my favorite Spotify features This feature highlights major tours, similar to the Live events section found on Spotify artist pages But it doesn't stop there; Set Lists allows Apple Music users to listen to tour set lists and learn more about the production Of course, they can also click Browse upcoming shows to see if the artist is coming to their area
Both apps add new features, but you don't have to have both to use either; Spotify users can access Apple Music Guides from the Apple Maps app And if you are a Google Maps fan, you can use Apple Music Set Lists to see when major artists will be at a venue near you
If you don't have the Apple Maps app, you can also check out the new features by visiting the Apple Music Guides site in your web browser
