If your child is interested in experiencing what it is like to ride a motorcycle, the Droyd Blipper might be a good place to start This electric bike has a 250W motor and a top speed of about 12 mph We gave the Droyd Blipper a test ride to a child for a few weeks and asked him or her what he or she thought of it
The Droyd Blipper is available on Amazon for $529 It comes in two colors: a white frame with green accents and a tan frame with beige accents
The Blipper looks like a mini dirt bike It has a very sturdy trapezoidal steel frame with a long, cushioned seat The battery is located at the bottom of the frame, just above the footpegs A large, protected headlight sits atop the chunky front forks, and the bike rides on 16-inch tubeless tires Without the suspension, it would be tempting to go off-road [250 rear hub motor with a top speed of 125 mph and a range of 125 miles in 60 minutes
Preparing to ride the Blipper is very easy; the bike is almost fully assembled and all that is left is to attach the handlebars and front wheel However, you must make sure the battery is fully charged, which can take up to 6 hours if the battery is depleted
The controls are quite simple: on the left handlebar is the handbrake, on the right side is the throttle, and above that is the power indicator and a button that turns on the bike's headlight
To prevent theft, the bike's battery can be secured with a small key While it is not possible to physically remove the battery, removing the key will prevent the bike from being turned on
The Blipper measures 524 x 331 x 221 inches and weighs 437 pounds It should be stored just off the ground
I am too old and too big to try the Blipper, so I gave it to my friend's son Chase
Chase compared the Blipper's styling to a motorcycle He just wished it came in more colors than just white and sand
Chase said that the seat, handlebars, and footpegs on the Blipper are all comfortable, and it rides really well on pavement He also liked the location of the controls, which were easy to use, and the battery level indicator On dirt, however, it was not so good He wished the tires were a little bigger to handle the non-smooth surface
Chase said the bike's low center of gravity made it easy for beginners to ride and overcome their fear of falling He also liked the big LEDs, which made the Blipper perfect for riding in dark situations For example, if he was at a friend's house a little late and needed to get home for dinner
Chase found that the Blipper's battery life was ideal for short rides around the block or to and from friends' houses However, with a top speed of 125 mph, he struggled to keep up with friends and adults riding electric scooters with faster top speeds However, the Blipper recharged fairly quickly and could be ridden several times a day
Overall, the Droid Bripper is a fun ride for kids who want a (safe) taste of what it is like to ride a bike; at $529, it is a bit more expensive than some of the best electric scooters for kids, but it is a great option and has a limited top speed to help put nervous parents at ease There is a maximum speed limit, which helps to reassure nervous parents
