The PS5 Pro rumors show no signs of quieting down, and few concrete details exist, but as it turns out, Sony has yet to officially announce an upgraded version of the PS5 console
According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, Sony expects full PS5 Pro specs to be leaked by the end of this month Henderson claims that this is because third-party studios (studios not owned by Sony) are receiving development kits for the PS5 Pro
While we cannot directly confirm Henderson's latest report at this time, he is a prominent PS5 Slim leaker and confirmed the exact details of the refreshed PS5 console months before it was finally announced via the PlayStation Blog That said, the above should still be considered rumors, but Henderson has enough of a track record to make this update an intriguing one
If Sony is indeed in the process of offering PS5 Pro development kits to developers outside of the PlayStation family, as previous leakers have suggested, this would strongly suggest that the console could be released in 2024 Sony must also be aware of the potential leak risk that comes from distributing development kits outside of its own stable of studios, and thus may officially confirm the Pro console in the coming months
Next year would certainly seem to be the right time to release a PS5 Pro console The regular PS5 will be four years from launch in November 2024, which would be the logical midpoint for this generation of consoles A fall release next year, however, would be a bit later than the PS4 generation; the PS4 Pro was released just less than three years after the PS4 first hit the market, so the PS5 Pro is already lagging behind the previous generation
Of course, Sony has yet to confirm the development of a PS5 Pro console, and there remains the possibility that the Japanese company will choose to skip the mid-generation upgrade, especially since the transition between PS4 and PS5 was unusually long this time around Even this year, blockbuster games like "Hogwarts Legacy," "Resident Evil 4," and "Assassin's Creed Mirage" were released on both PS5 and PS4
Expect to see more clarity on Sony's plans for the PS5 Pro as we head into 2024 However, if Tom Henderson's claims are true, it may only be a matter of days before we get a big leak that more clearly shows the power of the PS5 Pro
