The Netflix show I am most excited about this spring has released its first trailer

2024 could be Andrew Scott's year Former "Sherlock" actor Andrew Scott's new film "All of Us Strangers" with fellow Irishman Paul Mescall is in theaters now, and the trailer for the new Netflix show has just been released And I am already fascinated by this well-crafted thriller

"Ripley" is a new limited series coming to Netflix in the spring, and if the name doesn't give you any idea, it is based on the work of author Patricia Highsmith Tom Ripley's novels have been adapted to film several times, most notably in the 1999 film "The Talented Mr Ripley," in which Matt Damon played the eponymous role alongside Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cate Blanchett

Scott plays the lead role of Tom Ripley The eight-episode show follows him as he is hired by a wealthy tycoon to travel to Italy and convince his son, who wants to return home, to join the family business If you are familiar with Ripley's (mis)adventures, you know that this leads to a complex story of deception, fraud, and even murder

Netflix's first trailer for "Ripley" is certainly a teaser; at less than a minute and with only a couple lines of dialogue, it doesn't say much, but it is an effective mood setter It also gives us our first taste of Scott's performance as the titular Ripley, as well as glimpses of Dakota Fanning and John Malkovich in supporting roles My excitement for [Ripley] comes not only from its dependable lead, iconic source material, and intriguing first trailer, but also because I am very confident that I will love this Netflix show written, directed, and executive produced by Steven Zaillian

Zaillian's body of work is truly impressive The American screenwriter has written (or co-written) the screenplays for such acclaimed films as "Gangs of New York," "Moneyball," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and "The Irishman" He won an Academy Award for his work on Steven Spielberg's masterpiece Schindler's List

He is no stranger to the world of television Zaillian co-produced and directed every episode of the 2016 HBO crime drama The Night Of The film stars Riz Ahmed and John Turturro A shy college student is accused of murder after a one-night stand and must fight to prove his innocence, and HBO's miniseries is, in a word, phenomenal So if "Ripley" can match the same level of quality, it will surely rank as one of the best shows in Netflix history

Fortunately, you don't have to wait that long to dive into Ripley's world of deception and double life In the meantime, if you're looking for something you can stream right now, check out what's new on Netflix in February and the best new shows to watch this week
