Samsung's Galaxy Ring is here, and Oura is one step ahead with new AI features

We are just a few days away from the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring at this year's Unpacked event on July 10 [The company just announced Oura Advisor, a new suite of AI-backed insight tools as part of its experimental feature program, Labs, and you can try it out right now

All you need is an Oura Ring Gen 3 and an active membership, and you can select Advisor on the Labs tab of the app

Once activated, you will have access to an AI health coach throughout the day, where you can initiate conversations with the Advisor, ask questions, view progress reports, and get personalized recommendations based on your data and routines

Oura also states that you can "customize the intensity and focus areas of coaching and tailor support for targeted lifestyle changes that align with your personal health goals," allowing you to gain insights that more closely reflect your goals

According to the Oura Labs support page, you can customize the way advisors respond to you, from supportive to a more goal-focused style These chats are saved as "memories" in the Oura app so they can be reviewed and deleted as needed

Oura's current dominance has some challengers, like the affordable Helio Ring and several other products in early stages or slated for release in 2024 However, Samsung's Galaxy Ring is the first product from a major tech company to seriously challenge Oura's position

And from what we've heard so far, Samsung is going all out with the ring and its health and fitness ecosystem It will probably be priced around $300 (the same as Oura), but we don't know if it will require a monthly fee like Oura

We'll have to wait until Unpacked to know exactly what Samsung has in store, but we're told the Galaxy watch will get new AI like personalized wellness tips, improved sleep analysis, and specific training thresholds for runners and cyclists We're told it will get features like

The AI-backed analysis will likely take place on the phone rather than on the watch, so the Samsung Health app may bring the experience together If so, it is reasonable to expect Ring to have access to similar tools

Oura Advisor is one of the company's first major features to use AI tools, but most of Oura's success was built on Ring's interoperability

Most helpful so far has been Oura's integration with exercise app Strava and its partnership with fertility app Natural Cycles

Samsung Galaxy Ring will likely only work within the Samsung ecosystem, so a Samsung Android phone, possibly a Galaxy Watch, and the Samsung Health app to analyze data and track progress will would be required

But the key to success in either ring would be actionable insights After all, tracking your metrics is one thing, but all this data is only really useful if you can do something with it, which is where these AI features might really come into their own

Oura's first tentative step toward personalized insights sounds useful, but it also feels like a reaction to the impending launch of the Galaxy Ring However, until Unpacked on July 10, we will not know how the Oura Ring will compare to the Galaxy Ring
