Google's New Nest Smart Thermostat Revealed in TikTok Unveiling Video - What's New?

Despite some leaked promotional images surrounding Google's fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, it's always easier to imagine if you can see the device in someone's hands

Fortunately, a new YouTube and TikTok channel called FranklyHonestManReviews dropped an unboxing video (spotted by our sister site TechRadar)

The channel, which appears to have been created on July 31, features a video of the leaker getting three versions of the smart thermostat (polished gold, polished silver, and obsidian) If we are to take him at his word, these are the only three colors that the fourth-generation Nest will offer, with the exception of white, which is available on the current model

TikTok leakers have unveiled a black version of the new Nest This sleek device appears slimmer than previous models The bezel, if any, is almost non-existent as it appears to be the same color as the glass He did not turn on the device, so it is unclear if the temperature can be changed by turning the invisible bezel like the current Nest thermostat, or if the large glass display indicates a touch screen

Earlier leaks of the Nest Thermostat revealed that the case is made of stainless steel, not recycled plastic

Finally, in the unboxing video, one can see the new Nest mount, which appears to be different from the current thermostat mount Although not apparent from the video, this means that the 3rd generation Nest thermostat may not be able to be unclipped and replaced with the new 4th generation model

The newer models are supposed to provide smart ventilation with compatible HVAC systems This means that mounting changes may have been necessary

The video shows that Google replaced the micro USB port on the back of the thermostat with a new USB-C connector This port would at most be used for charging and troubleshooting

Finally, the thermostat ships with a Nest temperature sensor It can be attached to a nail or picture hook There does not appear to be anything new in this sensor, and the new Nest should work with the sensors it already has
