The best streaming services have confirmed their schedules for new movies arriving this week, and popular platforms including Netflix and Max have announced new movies not to be missed
Netflix offers a new romantic drama (“Lonely Planet”) and Max a mystery thriller full of twists (“Caddo Lake”), but the biggest new arrival is the premium streaming debut of “Beetlejuice” This eccentric Tim Burton-directed sequel is well-timed in the midst of the Halloween season and was warmly received by audiences when it opened last month
However, these are just a few of the new films you can see this week, and you can read below for a full list of new releases available for streaming over the next few days Also, check out our sister guide to the top new shows you can watch this week
This Halloween, you can bring home the pesky poltergeist Betelgeuse The highly anticipated comedy-horror sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” arrives on premium streaming this week, reuniting the stars of the original 80s version, Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O'Hara, with newcomer Jenna Ortega, who looks like she was made for this film Directed by Tim Burton, this film is as weird and fun as its predecessor

It's perhaps rather appropriate that many of the details of “Caddo Lake” are being withheld The thriller, which opens this week at the Max, centers on several disappearances that seem to be related to one family's dark history When an eight-year-old girl disappears from the lake of the same name, and the investigation reveals shocking revelations and long-buried secrets, things take a turn for the worse
Produced by M Night Shyamalan and starring Dylan O'Brien, Eliza Scanlen, Lauren Ambrose, Eric Lang, and Sam Hennings, “Caddo Lake” is an engaging mystery/ It could be a thriller However, the film has not been shown in advance at any film festivals, so there is always the possibility that its quality could be somewhat questionable For now, we advise cautious optimism
Watch it on Max starting October 10
If you're more interested in swooning than being scared this month, you should put “Lonely Planet” on your Netflix watch list The romance drama co-stars Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth, and if the two super-attractive leads aren't enough, the stunning Moroccan set is sure to dazzle In “Lonely Planet,” a reclusive novelist (Dern) visits a writer's retreat in the hopes that the change of scenery and secluded setting will help her unravel her writer's block
There she meets a young man (Hemsworth) who is at the retreat with his girlfriend, and the two hit it off immediately despite their age difference They start out as friends exploring exotic locations together, but as they grow closer, romantic sparks fly and a life-altering love affair begins While “Lonely Planet” doesn't seem to have many surprises in its story (I'm already confident I can predict the ending), it will be a gentle drama that will bring tears to your eyes

Based on the short story of the same name published in 2022, director Brandon Espy turned the three-minute short into a feature film Mr Crockett” begins in 1993, when a children's show host magically emerges from the TV set into the real world But he enters this world with sinister intentions, kidnapping the children watching and brutally murdering their parents in the process Admittedly, this is a rather original sales pitch for a horror film
Developing the idea beyond the confines of a short movie, this complete version of “Mr Crockett” follows a mother whose son is kidnapped and who confronts the demonic entertainment with a smile on her face Stepping into a twisted nightmare, she must confront the demon that is always smiling Mr Crockett is shaping up to be one of this season's horror masterpieces The Hulu movie has already been praised for its use of practical effects, which is becoming the new trend in horror, eschewing CGI in favor of old-fashioned methods, and I'm all for the switch

This horror thriller starring Halle Berry is much more interesting in concept than in finality Nevertheless, if you are looking for a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last moment, “Never Let Go” is the perfect choice It is also a great showcase for Berry's acting talents and a solid performance by two young actors, Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B Jenkins This dark thriller failed to find an audience in theaters (it was a box office flop and barely made back its budget), but now that it has appeared on streaming distribution, it may get a second wind
Set in a remote forest infected by a shapeshifting evil, Berry plays a mother watching over her two sons from a secluded log cabin The rules of survival are simple: as long as her sons are tethered to the house, even by a single rope, they are protected, but if she lets go of their hands, they are corrupted by evil This daily survival life is not easy, and it becomes even more difficult when one of the boys begins to wonder if the unseen evil is real Soon, the mother's attempts to keep her family safe become increasingly desperate and things spiral out of control
