Good news and bad news for “The Good Omens”.
According to Variety, Season 3 of Neil Gaiman's adaptation of “The Good Omens” on Prime Video will continue, a relief for fans of the show like myself. The story of the devil Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Azirafaire (Michael Sheen), whose unlikely friendship and borderline romance has been entertaining throughout the previous two seasons.
Season 3 had already been confirmed as the show's final season. However, production on the show had been on hiatus since September following the sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman. Gayman was the writer/executive producer of the show and co-author of “The Good Omens,” which he co-wrote with the late Terry Pratchett.
Now, however, production appears to have been given the go-ahead again, but without Gaiman, who had previously offered to step down from the show; according to Variety, production will resume in Scotland in early 2025, and Gaiman will be the show's final episode's Gaiman has been removed as executive producer.
This news should be a relief not only to Gaiman's accusers, but also to the cast and crew.
There is, however, a bit of bad or bittersweet news in this report. While Season 3 of Good Omens will still be produced, it has now been trimmed down to one 90-minute episode. Originally intended to be a “full” Season 3 (in this case, six episodes), that is no longer in the cards, as Gaiman's demotion and accusations have affected the production.
Now it is up to the show's writers to tell the complete story in this mere 90 minutes. I have high hopes for the show so far, as it has been well received and fun to watch. However, as we have seen with shows like “House of Dragons,” cutting episodes can seriously detract from the show.
