Xbox Series X will only beat PS5 in the hottest game of the year

"Cyberpunk 2077" will finally be released this week, ending a long production cycle and countless delays The question, of course, is which next-gen console will be best to play it on

Well, depending on which side of the console wars you are on, there is good news and bad news Because it turns out that the Xbox Series X has an advantage over the PS5

The VGC revealed one important difference between the PlayStation and Xbox versions when played on the next generation consoles: the PS5 has a performance mode in its settings that, when enabled, slightly reduces the resolution, giving the console the resolution needed to achieve 60 frames per second

The Xbox series is a very popular series of consoles

The Xbox Series X also has this, but adds a "quality mode" that does exactly the opposite: if you want to play at 30 frames per second, you can raise the resolution to the upper limit

Many would argue that frame rate is more important than resolution However, not everyone is the same At least with the Xbox Series X, you can choose to either prioritize resolution or achieve the 60 fps limit

As for the PC versions, they seem to perform better than the console versions; according to Tom's Hardware, if you want any chance of achieving 4K 60fps, you need the latest Nvidia RTX 3090 GPU even if you downgrade to 1440p 60FPS you're going to need something like the RTX 3080 However, it seems that you can get one or the other without slightly more advanced hardware

One thing to note now is that the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 is a previous generation game and can be played on the PS5 and Xbox Series X via backwards compatibility Since the upgrade to next generation consoles is not scheduled until sometime next year, it is not optimized for more advanced hardware and cannot take full advantage of what is being offered

The only question is whether it will be enough to achieve the coveted 4K 60FPS level Or even possibly 120 FPS at lower resolutions; until someone at CD Projekt Red gives us more information, we will never know for sure

Of course, right now the question of which next-gen console to buy is almost arbitrary And we are not going to be the annoying people who insist that every game should be played on a PC Rather, the truth is that with the Xbox Series X and PS5 in such short supply, the console wars are basically dead We can't afford to be that selective when we are seconds away from buying a console and failing

Furthermore, it is still technically in the pre-launch phase, and we know that cyberpunk will get a big patch on day one; the PS5's quality mode may be unlocked, and the PS5's quality mode may be a bit more expensive than the PS5's
