iPhone12 leak reveals surprise upgrade to battle with Samsung Galaxy Note 20

Leaked information on the iPhone 12 continues to emerge as the September announcement approaches, and the latest leaks offer a glimpse into the possibility of reverse wireless charging in the upcoming Apple phone

YouTuber EverythingApplePro has obtained schematics and images showing how Apple will attach a ring of magnets to the chassis of the next iPhone It is not clear exactly what these magnets are for, but they may hint at upgraded wireless charging for iPhone 12 models and the ability to provide reverse charging for accessories such as AirPods Pro and Apple Watch 5

EverythingApplePro noted that the magnet could be used for attachment purposes as well as to provide a "snap-in" wireless charging system That is not to say that the iPhone 12 will offer a mounting modular upgrade via magnetic connection, as some Moto phones have in the past However, it could pave the way for an official Apple wireless charger that would also function as a sleek stand for the phone, not unlike the Google Pixel Stand

However, Komiya, another technical informant, sees the magnet as not being for reverse charging While reverse charging would certainly allow the iPhone 12 to compete with the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S20 series, some argue that such a charging system is a bit gimmicky rather than truly useful

In short, the leaked schematics reveal a potential surprise feature for the iPhone 12 that has not been suggested in previous leaks

What we know so far is that the iPhone 12 will be available in 54-inch and 61-inch standard versions, with two rear cameras, 5G connectivity, and Apple's latest custom chip, the A14 Bionic

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are expected to measure 61" and 67" respectively, with displays expected to have a 120 Hz refresh rate Both models will feature a triple rear camera array with LiDAR sensors, like the camera setup on the iPad Pro 2020

All four iPhone 12 models will feature a new design with flatter edges, reminiscent of the iPhone 4's sharp rectangular design From the leaked images and dummy units we have seen so far, the new design looks quite clever

The iPhone 12 series is expected to be unveiled in September However, thanks to the disruption caused by the coronavirus, the actual release of the handsets is expected to be delayed We should know more next month
