Quibi: Shows, Prices, TV Streaming and How to sign up

Quibi has arrived and we gave this new streaming service a try And not only is it star-studded, but it has an interesting mobile-specific design, and it looks even more three-dimensional when viewed in portrait and landscape orientation

And before you say, "I just added Disney Plus," realize that this is something else; Quibi's review explains what this service is all about and how the Turnstyle feature actually works

Since the 2018 announcement, hype for the service has slowly been building up, and with funding already in place from many of the companies behind other streaming services, including The Walt Disney Company and NBCUniversal, we're getting a little closer to the actual release date

"We are getting closer and closer to the actual release date

Quibi's streaming service seems to appeal to our shorter attention spans; the name Quibi comes from the abbreviation for "quick bites"

Quibi is also the name the service uses for each episode So even those who previously thought they were binging content can be ready to inhale Quibis in less time than it takes to buy a pizza

One of the major elements of Quibi is that episodes are designed to be viewed in both traditional landscape and portrait orientation; this rotation, which Quibi calls "turnstile," allows users to seamlessly move between both positions

The turnstile mode opens up additional content: when Quibi showed footage of a man discovering his girlfriend cheating on him, viewers could rotate their phones to portrait and see his phone as he saw it or her flirting with someone else at a party Instagram Story, which revealed her flirting with someone else at the party

Quibi was founded in 2018 by DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, with Meg Whitman (formerly of HP) as CEO Quibi started as a mobile-first platform and was expected to stay that way However, CEO Meg Whitman told CNBC that the company is currently working on a way to cast Quibi to television

Quibi starts at $5 per month for an ad-supported package, with 1-2 ad breaks per episode and each ad duration as short as 6 seconds; Quibi also offers an ad-free version for $8 per month According to Whitman, ads appear for only 25 minutes per hour

Downloadable videos are available on both plans

Quibi has added support for AirPlay streaming from Apple devices in response to the situation that has us stuck at home; in June it will also support Chromecast This feature was offered in version 13, released on May 26 When we tried it, Quibi's rotate feature does not work with AirPlay You can only watch programs in landscape mode

Currently, Quibi offers users a 90-day free trial This should give Quibi enough time to show its customers what it is all about, and there is no danger of people running away after the first hit show (whichever it is) ends

Download the Quibi app to sign up for Quibi, which is available in the US and Canada; it is only available for Android and iPhone, with no plans for a tablet version

Once you've downloaded the app, tap "Start a 90-day free trial" and follow the instructions to sign up; here's the link to download the Quibi app:

It feels like someone at Quibi has opened their checkbook and given you two instructions: first, you must sign up for a free trial, and second, you must sign up for a free trial In other words, as you can see above, Chance the Rapper is now the host of Chance the Punked Really Really

In an email sent on February 27, Quibi teased a show called Die Hart" The action-packed comedy set in Atlanta, Georgia, will star Kevin Hart, John Travolta, Josh Hartnett, and Nathalie Emmanuel" A week earlier, Variety revealed that "Reno 911" will return as a Quibi series, with fan favorites Wendi McClendon-Covey and Niecy Nash

In its first year, Quibi will offer approximately 8,500 pieces of content in 175 programs Most exciting are new horror shows from Guillermo del Toro and Steven Spielberg The latter is developing a program called "Spielberg's After Dark," which users will only be able to watch at night

An unscripted show featuring Idris Elba, Jennifer Lopez, and Chrissy Teigen (among many others) is also in the works Teigen is appearing in "Chrissy's Court," which borrows the "Judge Judy" formula Other big-name actors involved in the service include Peter Farrelly, Antoine Fuqua, Anna Kendrick, and Trevor Noah

And, since it's a recent trend, there are also reboots: MTV is also bringing back "Singled Out" from mothballs, and will also appear in "Quibi," and according to the LA Times, "Legends of the Hidden Temple" will also return

This was the best program guide at the launch of Quibi

We saw Chrissy's Court for the first time, and it is one odd-looking show This trailer looks like "all of the WOW moments," so we're curious to see how it fares as a show

I miss Sansa Stark's Weekly" Quibi's drama "Survive" heals Sophie Turner's broken heart and pushes her out into the icy terrain

Oh, we all want more Hemsworth brothers In the next clip, Liam is in a nasty pinch that looks thrilling

Quibi's website offers an audio pronunciation of "kwibē"

For months I heard the name Quibi, and for months I doubted its success But now that a release date has been set, I am more likely to be wrong about the latter; there is already free short-form content on YouTube Time will tell, but I am more than a little skeptical

Has Quibi found an alternative to the world of free podcasts and online video we're already used to, we'll find out come April
