The Galaxy Fold Lite's specs (or maybe the Galaxy Fold e's) have been materialized by a new rumor Not only will this inexpensive Samsung foldable be nearly half the price of the regular Galaxy Fold, but it will also likely include a powerful flagship chipset, but will forgo 5G and several other features
Max Weinbach, a frequent Twitter leaker with a proven track record on Samsung and other companies' phones, broke the news in a series of posts He ends the thread with the caveat that "this is more of a rumor than a leak," but he believes what he wrote is accurate, at least about the current state of the phone
According to Weinbach, the Galaxy Fold Lite has a mix of old and new components, some dating back to 2018 The exterior is a mix of aluminum and glass, available in the same mirror black and mirror purple colors as the Galaxy Z Flip; Weinbach says that Samsung will not use an Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) composite material like the Z Flip, so the interior will likely to have a plastic OLED display, he said
The front of the Fold Lite will have an outer display, but it will not be the smaller but still usable standard display of the Galaxy Fold, but rather something like the Z Flip's small notification window
The Galaxy Fold Lite will only have 4G connectivity, which is disappointing given its high price However, it will likely use the same Snapdragon 865 chip found in the Galaxy S20 series and many other top 2020 Android phones, so it won't lose out on other important performance aspects
Weinbach noted that he is not entirely sure about this, but said there appears to be evidence that Samsung is preparing compatible software in the kernel for the Galaxy S20 Ultra It will also have 256GB of storage, half the 512GB of the original Galaxy Fold, but still should be enough for most users' files, photos, and apps
As for pricing and availability, Weinbach quotes the same $1,099 (converted to £895) that we saw in earlier leaks He also claims that the Fold Lite will be available internationally, which could mean good things for potential US and UK customers He further states that the phone is codenamed Winner2
We expect the Galaxy Fold 2, the true full-price successor to the Galaxy Fold, to appear in August alongside the Galaxy Note 20 It is likely that the Galaxy Fold Lite will be mentioned there
