iPhone SE2020 battery life is a big disappointment

The iPhone SE 2020 has a lot to offer for its $399 price, including a fast A13 Bionic processor, a brilliant display, and a very good camera However, battery life is not this new model's strong point

In fact, our battery tests show that the iPhone SE's 1,821 mAh battery is well ahead of any modern iPhone and nearly three hours ahead of its top Android phone rival The battery life of the new iPhone SE is as follows

* = tested at 5G

For the battery test, each device was allowed to surf the web continuously on a cellular connection (4G or 5G) at 150 nits screen brightness until it turned off The phones loaded a new site every 30 seconds While this test is not designed to mimic real-world use, it does allow us to compare the relative durability of multiple handsets

Unfortunately, the iPhone SE did not impress in our tests, averaging 9 hours and 18 minutes We consider anything over 11 hours to be very good, and these handsets make our best handset battery life list

The new iPhone SE's battery life lags behind the iPhone 11, which has a larger 61-inch display by nearly 2 hours, while benefiting from a larger 3,110 mAh iPhone SE has a smaller 47-inch LCD

The iPhone 11 Pro, with its 58-inch display and 3,046 mAh battery, took 10:24 in our tests, while the 65-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max's 3,969 battery took an impressive 11:54

So what about smartphones in the iPhone SE price range? That one doesn't look too good either, as the $399 Google Pixel 3a held up very impressively to 11 hours 59 minutes in our battery test, which means you're getting 25 hours of extra power from this Android phone

The $249 Moto G Power is exceptional The tremendous 5,000 mAh battery built into this phone lasted a whopping 16 hours and 10 minutes, several hours longer than the iPhone SE To be fair, the Moto G Power is not as powerful as the iPhone SE and is considerably larger and heavier than the iPhone SE with its 64-inch display

The iPhone SE's battery life is comparable to Samsung's Galaxy S20 However, this is with 5G networking, which has been shown to have a significant impact on durability Still, the fact that the S20 has a 4,000 mAh battery compared to the iPhone SE's 1,821 mAh pack shows that battery capacity is only part of the equation

Overall, the iPhone SE's battery life is certainly a drawback when compared to other iPhone and Android phones that compete directly with Apple's affordable phones Anecdotally, the iPhone SE lasted considerably less than my daily driver, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but I found that the iPhone SE could get through a significant portion of the day on a charge

Ultimately, the iPhone SE is an excellent value in terms of features and performance for the money However, if you are looking for long-lasting durability, you should look elsewhere
