A major leak of Samsung's new Galaxy Fold 2 has revealed a major camera upgrade coming to the new foldable in August
Ross Young, founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, revealed this information in a series of tweets (1, 2, 3) He has leaked Galaxy Fold 2 specs before and is highly regarded by other major leakers, so there is little reason to doubt his claims
The specifics of the tweet relate to three things First, the cameras, or at least the main rear camera Young said these will be a 12MP/16MP/64MP combination with dual optical image stabilization (OIS), improving on the 12MP/12MP/16MP trio of the original Galaxy Fold Previous rumors had heard that these cameras would be the same as the Galaxy S20 Plus' rear camera array, so we can assume that each of these cameras will consist of a main lens, an ultrawide lens, and a 3x optical zoom lens
Second, the Fold 2 will be priced lower than the original Fold While he generally estimates the price of the Fold 2 to be between $1780 and $1980, Young is more specific in his estimate of $1880 to $1895 This would be $100 less than the original Fold, despite the improved specs, as Samsung aims to sell more of this phone
Finally, Young commented on the Fold 2's release date As previously rumored, it would be announced in late August, followed by shipments in September
Young responded to comments from other Twitter users and revealed a few more details He does not expect any coronavirus-related delays for the Fold 2 Meanwhile, Apple appears to be suffering from a one-month delay on the iPhone 12
Unfortunately, Young is not convinced that the Fold 2 will feature an under-display selfie camera, the latest potential answer to the display notch issue
Regarding rumors that the Fold 2 will ship with an S Pen stylus, Young said that the S Pen stylus will likely work on both the outside and inside displays of the phone, he saidBesides the addition of the S Pen, we expect the Fold 2 to boast larger displays inside and out, a 120Hz refresh rate like the Galaxy S20 series, and possibly 5G connectivity by default
Also expected in August is Samsung's new stylus-equipped phablet, the Galaxy Note 20; Young said that if the Fold 2 does not have these sub-display sensors, the Note 20 likely will not either Young said that if the Fold 2 does not have these sub-display sensors, the Note 20 likely will not either
