Samsung Galaxy S30 camera can "capture more details than human eyes"

The Samsung Galaxy S30 may be the first phone to benefit from Samsung's next giant camera sensor The company is aiming for a 600 megapixel camera, which it claims is higher resolution than the 500 megapixel equivalent of the human eye

Noted leaker Ice Universe tweeted the news, which appears to have originated from a post on Samsung's press site by Yongin Park, EVP of System LSI Business and head of the sensor business team The System LSI Business is part of Samsung's semiconductor manufacturing business and manufactures products such as the HMX camera sensor and Exynos processor line

Park's post explains how Samsung has improved its image sensors and will continue to improve them This includes existing technologies such as "Nonacell," which can combine nine pixels into one large pixel to improve image brightness at the expense of detail The report also mentions a sensor that is said to "detect smell and taste"

Samsung debuted two large camera sensors in the Galaxy S20 series: a 64MP telephoto camera on the standard Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus and a large 108MP main sensor on the Galaxy S20 Ultra

Samsung has completed development of a 150MP camera and is currently rumored to be working on a 256MP successor If the development of this proposed 600MP sensor takes too long, we may see one of these in the Galaxy S30

As many replies to this tweet have been quick to point out (such as this one by Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech), Samsung may have a resolution advantage over its rivals, but that is only part of the picture The poor autofocus found in some of Samsung's cameras makes it harder to get the most out of these sensors than much smaller cameras like the iPhone 11 Pro or the 12MP sensor used by the Google Pixel 4 Hopefully Samsung has a solution that maintains quality performance while increasing the number of megapixels

Samsung's Galaxy S30 is expected to arrive in February 2021 and is rumored to have a larger camera than the S20 Ultra's main sensor and possibly Samsung's first under-display selfie camera

Before that, we will likely see the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 by the end of summer 2020
