The OnePlus Concept One has an invisible camera and color-changing glass

After OnePlus issued an invitation to unveil the Concept One smartphone at CES 2020, we were excited to see what this unique Chinese manufacturer had created OnePlus has now teased a few more details, and the Concept One looks to be an exciting phone

A new tweet on the OnePlus Twitter account shows off a short video, highlighting two features

The video shows a centrally located rear camera, normally covered by electrochromic glass, but can be manually exposed by opening the camera app This results in a much cleaner looking back than the increasingly common camera bump design that manufacturers are using to put as much camera technology as possible on their phones

The electrochromic glass was borrowed from the automotive industry, where OnePlus leveraged a partnership with supercar manufacturer McLaren to help develop technology used in car sunroofs for smartphones In keeping with this, the back of this concept phone appears to be made of stitched leather, and McLaren's trademark papaya orange is used, as is a special version of the latest smartphone, the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition [48MP main lens, 16MP wide lens, and 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom

Sadly, OnePlus says the concept remains a concept and that it has no immediate plans to ship phones with this color-changing glass However, the pop-up mechanism, slider, and accompanying sub-display camera concept being developed by Xiaomi and Oppo, represent another viable route that phone makers can use to try to hide the camera
