Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia network have just pulled this show over controversy

This is bad Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Network, which launched on cable TV last week, is canceling their renovation show "Homework" due to allegations of cutting corners and budget overruns

The Gaineses rose to stardom with HGTV's "Fixer Upper" and built a lifestyle empire that included books, restaurants, stores, and clothing lines At the top of the heap is the Magnolia Network, created in partnership with Discovery, which took over the DIY network Magnolia's content has been streaming on Discovery Plus since July and debuted on cable television on January 5

Home Work features Andy and Candace Meredith, a Utah home remodeling couple The couple previously hosted Old Home Love on HGTV Their new show has been available on Discovery Plus for several months and was seen as an important part of the cable launch

Now, however, the Magnolia Network and Discovery Plus have removed the series after several homeowners accused the hosts of damaging their properties during renovations and overstepping their budget by tens of thousands of dollars The Merediths deny the accusations

One of their clients, Aubrey Bennion, posted her story on Instagram She said that the Merediths agreed to renovate their kitchen in three weeks for $25,000, but that the project ended up taking five months and costing $39,000 (much of which was spent fixing problems created by the renovation) Bennion also claimed that the Merediths never once showed him a written budget, despite his and her husband's repeated requests

At least two other homeowners have come forward with similar stories In response, the Merediths posted a statement on social media 'We have seen [the] stories being circulated While we cannot speak for anyone but ourselves, we can say that we have always tried to give everything we have to make everyone we work with happy," they wrote

Bennion also claimed that they sought help from the Magnolia Network, but the producer was "harsh" on Candice and ultimately nothing changed

"I want Magnolia to be accountable"

"I cannot believe that they would put Magnolia's name and reputation at risk and allow these people to represent Magnolia without any kind of oversight or guidance

Another homeowner, Vienna Gates, echoed these sentiments, mentioning Chip and Joanna Gaines in an Instagram post

"We believed in the reputation of Chip and Joanna and their beloved Magnolia brand and Candace's repeated assurances that all would be well," she wrote

The controversy finally led the Magnolia Network to cancel the home work for the time being The network's president, Allison Page, issued the following response: "Magnolia Network is aware that certain homeowners have expressed concerns about the renovation projects that Candace and Andy Meredith have worked on Over the past few days, additional information regarding the scope of these issues has come to light and we have decided to remove the homework from the Magnolia Network lineup
