Xiaomi12 will be the first phone to get Oppo and Motorola following Snapdragon 8GEN1 chip

Update: New leaked renderings show that the standard Xiaomi 12 will look more modest than its Ultra sibling

Qualcomm has taken the cover off the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip It was expected to be officially called the Snapdragon 898, but the chipmaker has adopted a new naming convention But as it turns out, this is an evolution of the previous Snapdragon flagship 8 series chipset, only this time with a new 4-nanometer process and a series of improvements

These are touted as focusing on camera improvements, gaming, 5G, and AI benefits But we won't know how good these chips are until they are actually in the phones that will be produced And the company that will produce the first of these chips has come forward to add color to Qualcomm's mast

The first company to feature the Snapdragon Gen 1 chip is Xiaomi, which confirmed at Qualcomm's launch event that its next flagship model, dubbed the Xiaomi 12, will soon feature the chip

The Xiaomi Mi 11 came out in December 2019, so the Xiaomi 12 could debut in Xiaomi's native China by the end of the year and be widely released in early 2022

Next in line after Xiaomi is Oppo, which has confirmed that a phone with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip will arrive in the first quarter of 2022 If this phone is a follow-up to the Oppo Find X3 Pro, it could be released in March, a year after the previous model

The tentative Find X4 leak is not yet comprehensive, but the details we do have are quite fascinating A high-resolution QHD display, 12GB of RAM, and most excitingly, 80W charging Furthermore, Oppo is currently partnering with OnePlus, so we may see 80W charging in the OnePlus 10 in late 2022

Finally, Motorola Motorola announced that it will launch its first Gen1 phone, the Edge X30, in China on December 9, featuring a 667-inch 144Hz display, 50MP main and ultra-wide cameras, a 60MP selfie camera, 5,000mAh battery capacity and 68W charging

These are the S2000s

These are just the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but more are sure to follow in due time

Snapdragon flagships have been widely adopted by Android phone makers, most notably Samsung's flagship for the US, with the Galaxy S22 coming next in February However, companies like OnePlus, ZTE, Realme, and Vivo also all use chips from this line, and will likely be used again in premium smartphones in 2022

The only Android phone maker we do not expect to adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is Google, which with the launch of the Google Pixel 6 moved away from buying Qualcomm chips and started its own design, named Tensor Samsung phones outside the US are also unlikely to use Snapdragon-branded silicon, and Samsung prefers to use its own line of Exynos chips whenever possible, including the upcoming Exynos 2200
