Stadia may have shut down all first-party game production, but Google's loss is Sony's gain Jade Raymond, one of gaming's most prolific producers, lost her job as vice president of Stadia last month when Google fired all of its game developers But it didn't take her long to get back on her feet She now heads Haven Entertainment Studios, a new Montreal-based company under the PlayStation umbrella Not only that, she and her team are already working on a new Sony IP
This information comes from the official PlayStation blog, where Raymond talks a bit about her personal experience in the gaming industry and what she hopes to accomplish in her new role
"Today, I am pleased to announce that I have worked with (and truly love!) many of the I am pleased to announce Haven, an independent studio where many talented game developers are coming together to do what we are most passionate about [We believe in the power of games to bring joy into people's lives And so does Sony Their commitment to excellence is unmatched That's why we couldn't be happier to have their backing and support"
She continued
So far, there is little concrete information about Haven other than that Raymond is at the helm and working on a new IP for PlayStation This is indeed promising enough Raymond is undoubtedly the mastermind behind the acclaimed "Assassin's Creed" series, and it is a shame that whatever she was working on with "Stadia" has been axed Furthermore, Sony's exclusive titles are generally excellent, and there is no reason why Haven's project should break that trend
Raymond did not say much about her departure from Google, other than to say that "some of these adventures [in the gaming industry] have been more successful than I had imagined, some less so" She also noted that between public health concerns and economic issues, it has been a very tough year for most people
Haven Studios has a website, but there is nothing on it yet except a link to a PlayStation Blog article and an email address; Raymond did not mention anything about jobs, so what people need to contact Haven about at this point That's a good question But we expect the website to get more specific in the coming months
We are also curious how Haven operates as an independent studio with Sony funding In general, independent studios are not tied to a particular publisher, so it is possible that Sony is simply Haven's first signatory It is also possible that the two companies have some sort of timed exclusivity agreement We will know more about this once we know what games Haven is working on
