If new leaked information (first reported by The Streamable) is to be believed, Roku may have just released a new feature-rich version of its remarkable remote control, dubbed the Roku Voice Remote Pro, which offers "hands-free voice control," a rechargeable battery, and a lost remote control finder
Unfortunately, according to Reddit users, the listing appears to have already been removed, with some claiming it is on backorder Curiously, the leaked image embedded below also shows a blank button where the branded button should be This is probably an error on Roku's part, and the product may have been announced a bit prematurely When it is officially announced, it will probably include services such as Netflix and Sling
The Streamable contacted Roku and obtained the following statement: "We are always working to bring new products and features to Roku users and are publicly testing new ideas with a small group of customers as part of that process
The Roku Voice Remote Pro is remarkably similar to what comes with the Roku Ultra That is, users get two customizable shortcuts, TV controls, a headphone jack for private listening, and a mute button
Roku offers an excellent streaming user interface For that reason, we believe Roku beats all other streaming devices, including those from Amazon, Google, and Apple
For now, Roku Voice Remote Pro is only available to members of the company's Early Access program, for which users will pay $30 This is the same price as the entry-level Roku Express; according to Reddit, the offer's page has already been removed
This means that even if you are already a Roku Early Access member, you will not get it right away
According to the small text at the bottom of the screen, "Channel preset buttons vary" This probably means that different regions have different streaming services pre-programmed into the remote control; Reddit users had hoped that Roku would make all of these buttons programmable, but customers can only customize probably only the "1" and "2" buttons, which is annoying because I always find myself accidentally pressing the Sling button and being asked to download the service
This remote control, assuming it is compatible, would be attractive to those with inexpensive Roku devices like Express or Premiere However, those with more expensive Roku streamers likely already have many of these features
Fortunately, Roku batteries tend to last longer I can't remember when I last changed the batteries, and the nice thing about Voice Remote Pro is that Roku has shown a willingness to listen to its customers and improve
The product is currently being tested with a small number of Roku customers, so the final version may be fully available sooner rather than later
