When the original "Dune" debuted, Warner Media at the time was still opting to release the new film both rebranded on HBO Max and theatrically due to the COVID-19 pandemic

This meant that when "Dune" was released in October 2021, it was immediately available on both theatrical and streaming services, allowing viewers to watch it at home whenever they wanted

Currently, most Warner Bros Discovery films are given at least a 45-day theatrical release window before becoming available on either pay-per-view video-on-demand or Max However, this window does not apply to all films For example, "Barbie" appeared on PVOD on September 12, one month after its theatrical release, and on Max on December 15

However, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, has previously stated that "Dune: Part 2" will likely be released on Max in the spring of 2024 Now that it is officially in its season, "Dune: Part 2" will be available exclusively on Max in April and May
