If you haven't paid for a Spotify subscription, you're losing another once free feature
Several Reddit users (via Android Authority) have noticed that Spotify limits the number of songs you can view lyrics on your free account Once the limit is reached, you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can see more lyrics on Spotify
Once the limit was reached, the app began to encourage users to move to a paid Premium subscription So while they will no longer be able to look up lyrics online, they will no longer have the real-time syncing and scrolling that Spotify offers with in-app lyrics
Spotify currently commissions lyrics from lyricists, publishers, and independent artists However, Spotify also works with MusixMatch, which provides lyrics when other avenues fail Spotify may be implementing this new rule to cover the cost of its partnership
Spotify offers an ad-based free membership for those who prefer to save money over a subscription model However, features of this service have been cut over time, such as limiting the number of songs free membership users can skip per hour (up to six) and not allowing them to choose the order in which they are played
It has been suggested that Spotify is focusing on AI features that will help improve the overall service for users However, by charging again for features that were once free, it may encourage non-paying users to switch to other best music streaming services such as YouTube Music or Apple Music
