When I first saw LOOPER, I was completely overwhelmed I remember talking about it for days after watching it with my father Years later, recently rewatching it on Netflix, I was reminded once again why it remains one of the greatest sci-fi thrillers of all time

Directed by visionary Rian Johnson and featuring stellar performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, LOOPER combines time travel, action, and moral complexity into one thrilling masterpiece With so many bad time travel movies out there, it's hard to find a film of this quality [You don't want to miss the chance to revisit or discover this cinematic sci-fi thriller So, before “LOOPER” disappears from Netflix, here's why it should be at the top of your watch list

Before you hit play, you may want to learn more about what this movie is actually about Looper is set in 2044 and follows Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), an assassin known as a looper, as he works for a future criminal organization Loopers are hitmen who kill and dispose of targets sent to the past by criminal organizations in order to circumvent tracking systems and laws against time travel

Joe's life suddenly becomes complicated when he is tasked with “closing the loop” by killing his future self (played by Bruce Willis) who was sent back in time to be eliminated Old Joe, however, manages to escape This sets off a tense and complex chase in which both versions of Joe try to outwit each other against a criminal organization

Emily Blunt plays Sarah, a tough and protective single mother living on a farm She is the mother of Sid (Pierce Gagnon), a boy with powerful telekinetic powers, and his relationship with Young Joe is central to the film's plot

“Looper” is a fascinating film that you will want to watch again and again What hooked me was not only the intriguing premise of a time-traveling assassin, but also the way the film blends tense action with a deeply personal story

Gordon-Levitt and Willis playing different versions of the same character was a unique touch that kept me on the edge of my seat The two actors were convincing and their connection was truly believable, with Gordon-Levitt convincingly incorporating Willis' mannerisms

What sets “Looper” apart is its emotional depth The relationship between Joe and his older self is always fraught with tension, but it is also colored by a tragic understanding of what has happened to them both

The scene where Young Joe confronts Old Joe is filled with an emotional intensity that can actually be felt through the screen Their first meeting at the diner is filled with tension and regret Old Joe's desperation to change the future in order to save his wife contrasts with Young Joe's confused determination to follow orders, creating an emotional conflict that continues throughout the rest of the film There are comedic moments, such as when the two order the exact same meal (they are, after all, the same person)

After all, “Looper” is no ordinary science fiction thriller Every time I watch it, I am reminded of why it left such a strong impression on me Its ability to appeal to both the brain and the heart is what makes its energy so irresistible and why it remains one of my favorites

“Looper” was a huge success when it was released in 2012, and its success has earned it an impressive score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and 82% from audiences Of course, these ratings do not determine whether you like the film or not, but they are good indicators that the film is definitely worth watching (and should be seen)

While I can continue to praise the film, I must be honest about the complex and somewhat messy plot, as Jim Ross of TAKE ONE magazine put it: “Like many complex time-travel stories, LOOPER inevitably becomes a bit Like many complex time-travel stories, “Looper” inevitably has a few frayed edges But LOOPER is a multilayered, intelligent neo-noir sci-fi with striking visuals and emotional resonance Although some plot points were never truly explained, “LOOPER” is still worth seeing

So, if you haven't already figured it out, I am a big fan of “LOOPER” and recommend it to anyone who likes a good sci-fi thriller The film was critically acclaimed and a box office success, grossing $176 million worldwide on a mere $30 million budget This is amazing

I'll throw my hands up in the air and admit that LOOPER has its weak points regarding plot holes and pacing, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth seeing I'm still not convinced; check out Netflix's Best War Movies and Miniseries or watch this crime thriller show on Max
