Google's new set-top streaming box, which first surfaced as a potential commercial product in July, may be nearing a release date to compete with Apple TV 4K and Roku Ultra A new report claims that the price of the Google TV streamer has been revealed
As spotted by 9to5Google, French site Dealabsclaims the Google TV streamer will cost €119 in Europe, roughly $131 going by current conversion rates (The existing Chromecast with Google TV sells for €69 in France
Currently, the most expensive Chromecast model available in the US is the Chromecast with Google TV with 4K for $49 (the HD version sells for $2999) In contrast, Apple's Apple TV 4K sells for $129 for the Wi-Fi only version and $149 for the Wi-Fi and Ethernet variant
According to leaked images, the new Google TV streamer has a more angular, rounded appearance than the Apple TV box The device reportedly features an upgraded Chromecast remote control with new buttons, including a programmable star button
Rumors suggest that Google could unveil this streaming device tomorrow (August 6), but with Google's new hardware to be showcased, the device could be on the agenda for a Made by Google event a week later In any case, according to the French site, the Google set-top box will not hit retail shelves until September 24
Dealabs rumors also mention that the streamer will only be available in white, and more specifically "porcelain"
The current iteration of the Chromecast has existed since 2020, with the last streaming device released being the Chromecast Google TV (HD) in 2022
Chromecast may not be around much longer, as Google dropped the "Chromecast built-in" name earlier this year and is quietly removing the Chromecast brand Google seems to be leaning toward the "Google TV" name, which makes sense and puts it on par with Apple
