Arlo makes some of the best security cameras around, and today's update to the Arlo Secure platform makes it even better with the addition of next-generation AI capabilities individuals and vehicles It also includes a custom detection feature that expands the range of notifications it can receive, such as if a garage door is left open or a light is left on in a room
Like Google and Wyze's Familiar Faces feature, Arlo's camera can tell you exactly who has arrived at your home To train the system, register a photo of each person in the Arlo app's private photo library Instead of an alert that motion has been detected on the deck, you will receive an alert that says something like “Michael has been recognized on the deck”
You can also label banks of cars to tell the camera which model belongs to whom Instead of receiving an alert that motion has been detected in the driveway, you can see a more personalized “Mom's Civic Arrives in the Driveway” As the holidays approach, you can see if your immediate family will be rushing in with last-minute groceries, so you don't have to stop what you're doing
You can train Arlo's AI system yourself, as well as people and cars With the custom detection feature (currently in beta), you can teach the camera to recognize certain objects or changes in circumstances and trigger custom notifications This can be useful for receiving alerts when a garage door is left open, a light is left on in the basement, or a pet is sitting on the couch
Arlo's monthly plans start at $1299 and include 30 days of cloud video storage, extensive notifications, and more advanced object detection Arlo AI is well ahead of its competitors However, the limited 30 days of cloud storage seems stingy compared to Ring Protect's 180 days or Google's Nest Aware Plus' 60 days
