When it comes to the Astro A50 wireless gaming headset, Logitech appears to be working on the principle of “if it ain't broke, make it a little better” With the newly announced G Astro A50 Lightspeed wireless gaming headset, the gaming company continued that
Built on the same platform as the latest A50 X gaming headset, the A50 has several improvements, the biggest being what Logitech calls Playsync Audio
The Playsync Audio feature is designed to allow players to seamlessly switch audio sources between console and PC platforms without having to switch HDMI video
“Our new A50 Gen 5 features PLAYSYNC AUDIO with a focus on three-system audio switching via USB, perfect for multi-platform gamers who have a console and PC connected to one or more monitors,” said Logitech G Gabriel Whyel, head of marketing for consoles and cloud at Logitech G
According to Logitech, Playsync allows users to connect up to three systems via USB-C, including Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, and quickly switch between them with a single button on the headset The Nintendoswitch can be connected in docking mode using the same system, but will not function when the console is in portable mode; Gen 4 models can only swap platforms using the HDMI switch The USB-C connection is in the updated base station, which also serves as the head It also functions as a charger for the set
For audio, Logitech has added a 40mm Pro-G graphene driver for improved clarity and “immersion The headset is equipped with a 48 kHz microphone, which is considered “broadcast quality The company claims 24-bit uncompressed “Lightspeed” wireless performance
Audio adjustments can be made using the G Hub on a PC or the Logitech G app on a smartphone From there, you can control EQ presets and “delve into the detailed adjustments of the fully parametric EQ, which remains on the headset even when switching between systems”
In terms of design, the 5th generation headset appears to be much the same as its predecessor, with the addition of a button to toggle the Playsync feature, but otherwise it is the familiar A50 design
The Astro A50 has been around since 2013, when the first generation headset was released It was developed primarily for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but could also connect to PCs and Macs The headset has become more industrialized since the first generation was released, but still maintains the basic outline of the previous generation
